Wanted a full value Steven's Pass day after bailing on Kyes and totally got it. Drove around until I got just enough service to download a few nearby routes. Drove to bridal vail falls but skipped it because it was a total zoo. Headed to this obscure(?) trail instead. Gunn trail is super primitive, isolated, and rugged. Straight up, scrambly, and really easy to lose. HOT. As soon as you get close to the treeline though it opens up into some of the most gorgeous terrain of my whole summer. Pristine alpine tarns and unadulterated views of the surrounding peaks, especially Baring, Townsend, Eagle, and Merchant. The whole Wild Sky Wilderness seems awesome. I got a little excited about a scramble and accidentally went up the wrong summit, it was probably climbable but I turned around because I wasn't prepared for that. Took the real trail up to where it seemed to peter out to a talus field and also turned around there because I was light on calories and it was a bit late in the day. I did bop up to Tailgunner on the way back which was lovely off trail white granite slabs. Saw a helicopter below me that might have been on a rescue mission? Once the clouds rolled in the heat gave way to very pleasant weather. Took so many photos and didn't even know how to pick them. Want to go back and camp up there or something
