Ride up to Brainard
Biking up to Brainard Lake has been on the bucket list all summer, so why not make it the approach to a scramble with almost as much vert while I’m at it? Saw a Bear crossing Broadway. Somehow both my fully charged bike light and headlamp died but it was fine. Need to find a lighter bike lock I’m not cool with this extra 4 pounds. Changed into scramblin' shoes, running vest, and short shorts at the top.
Blue Lakes Cirque
Audubon, Paiute, Toll, and kinda Pawnee. Way chossier than I expected which made this slow going, which had major repercussions. Should have picked something less climby and more runny. Got rained and hailed on about a mile from the end. Really good scrambling class 3-5 to be had here if you choose the spicy lines (Toll is the marquis climbing here). Had just done 5.7k feet of biking to get the the trailhead, so that made this a 10k foot adventure!
Ride out of Indian Peaks
Got hit with a flash hailstorm that coated the roads in a thick layer of snow, while the temperature dropped precipitously from like 70 to the 30s. My tires were 30s and I was shivering and my hands were numb so I didn’t turn down someone’s offer for a ride. Not before I hit the elusive 10 thousand foot day though!!!
Ride home
Drop off by good samaritans to home. Sad that I didn’t get my fun descent but boy howdy what a day.
